This page will help you to better understand your Peninsula Clean Energy electricity service as a San Mateo county resident.
Understanding Your Bill
Your Peninsula Clean Energy charges appear on your PG&E bill, and you are receiving a credit from PG&E on the bill, since you are no longer purchasing its power. We explain how to calculate your bill. Click on the links below.
Cleaner Electricity at Home
If you live in San Mateo County, you are receiving clean and renewable energy from Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE). Our ECOplus rates are lower than what you are currently paying your electric utility. You now have the power to choose where your electricity comes from. When you make the local choice with PCE, you’re helping San Mateo County thrive!
Portola Valley Residents
Portola Valley residents and businesses are enrolled in our Eco100 product, based on their Town Council’s vote to go carbon-free and 100% renewable right from the start. This makes Portola Valley one of the first towns in California to be entirely 100% renewable! Learn More
The Choice Is Yours
Peninsula Clean Energy offers two product options, each with a different amount of renewable energy. Choosing PCE means your electricity will be cleaner, your home will be greener, and our community will have control of where our electricity comes from. Lead the charge for a brighter, more sustainable future in San Mateo County.
ECOplus is our default electric option, in which you’ll be automatically enrolled during your designated phase.
- Lower rates than what you’re currently paying
- Nearly double the amount of clean energy compared to PG&E
- 50% of your electricity will come from renewables
- 80% carbon-free
ECO100 is for those who want to reduce their carbon footprint even more and help make the greatest impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
- 100% of your electricity will come from renewables
- 100% carbon-free
- Slightly higher rates when you opt-up
- Reduction in greenhouse gas emissions globally
- Costs $0.01 per kWh more than our ECOplus option

Investing in Our Community
An added benefit of PCE is that the earnings from the program are being reinvested into projects in our community. This could lead to the creation of new green jobs in San Mateo County, as they already have in other counties with similar programs. That’s good for our environment and our community!
Solar and Net Energy Metering customers
Do you have solar panels on your home? Customers who use solar power will be automatically enrolled in the Peninsula Clean Energy Net Energy Metering program without having to fill out any additional paperwork. For more information on solar and net energy metering, visit our Solar Customers page.
Special rate customers
If you’re enrolled in any of PG&E’s discount programs, you are getting your discounts with Peninsula Clean Energy. There’s no need to reapply for: California Alternative Rates for Energy (CARE), Federal Electric Rate Assistance (FERA), Medical Baseline Allowance (MBA) and the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). You’ll continue to receive these rate discounts once you’re automatically enrolled, with the added benefit of receiving cleaner electricity at even lower rates.
