The Road to Driving Electric Starts Here

It’s not too late

When the federal EV tax credit expired, many local drivers thought their chance at affording an electric vehicle had disappeared. But here in San Mateo County and Los Banos, that story is different.

Peninsula Clean Energy is keeping the road open for everyone—making the switch to clean transportation affordable. Even without the federal incentive, drivers can still save thousands on a reliable used EV, enjoy lower monthly costs, and get personalized support along the way.

You haven’t missed your chance; you’ve found another one.

A new path to savings

Even without federal credits, Peninsula Clean Energy offers one of California’s most generous used EV rebate programs. Customers can save up to $13,500 on a used electric vehicle or as much as $18,000 if they have an older gas car to scrap.

Here’s how the savings stack up:

Buying an EV may feel overwhelming. There are models to compare, chargers to choose, and rate plans to understand. PCE’s goal is to make those decisions easier so that you can be on your way, driving clean and saving money.

Why a used EV makes sense right now

Used electric vehicles are one of the smartest buys for the road today. They’re quiet, dependable, and far less expensive to maintain than gas cars. Many come with factory warranties still in effect and—when combined with stacked rebates—the total cost can be lower than buying a comparable gas-powered vehicle.

Once you start driving electric, the savings don’t stop. Electricity in PCE’s service area costs roughly $3 per gallon equivalent, when charging overnight and using PCE’s EV rate, compared to more than $4 per gallon for gasoline. That’s money back in your pocket!

You can explore additional ways to save by visiting PCE’s EV ownership resources and reviewing available EV rates. Charging overnight or during off-peak hours is the best way to maximize savings

Every mile you drive electric keeps more money in your pocket and helps keep the air cleaner for everyone.

Making the switch is simple

Switching to an EV might be  easier than you expect. Peninsula Clean Energy has simplified the process into three straightforward steps:

  1. Check your eligibility: Review the used EV rebate program to confirm which incentives apply to you.
