In 2016, PCE was established through unanimous vote by the County of San Mateo and its 20 cities. Since then, we’ve been working together to reduce emissions, deliver lower electricity costs, and install solar and electric vehicle (EV) charging that support a resilient, decarbonized future for the county.

Featured projects

Peninsula Clean Energy collaborates with its member cities in San Mateo County to bring clean energy projects directly to the community. These initiatives include installing solar panels on public buildings, adding electric vehicle (EV) chargers at multifamily apartments, and supporting other innovative projects that reduce emissions and promote sustainability.

Mission Blue Center gets EV charging & solar

This project highlights the City of Brisbane’s commitment to sustainability, with the array expected to generate 254,000 kWh over the next 20 years—reducing its carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels. This project will help the City save approximately $125,000.

San Carlos Youth Center

The City of San Carlos has installed a cutting-edge solar array at the San Carlos Youth Center through Peninsula Clean Energy’s Solar for Public Buildings program. This project highlights the City’s commitment to sustainability, with the array expected to generate 817,000 kWh over the next 20 years—reducing its carbon footprint and reliance on fossil fuels, all while helping the City save over $200,000.

Multi-family housing gets EV chargers

Through our largest multi-family EV Ready project, Peninsula Clean Energy partnered with a condo in East Palo Alto to install a smart outlet for each condo. As a result, each resident now has a place to charge an electric vehicle.
