Marketing Communications Specialist/Senior Specialist

Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with experience
Job type: Full-time
Location: Requires CA residency, may work remotely (within 100 miles of Redwood City, CA) or in-office, employees expected to attend in-person meetings on a quarterly-to-monthly basis.

With Peninsula Clean Energy’s marketing team, you join a collegial, professional, environmentally-conscious and energetic culture, and will plan and implement a wide range of marketing communications as we lead the way to a clean, carbon-free, and renewable energy future.

We are a small, hands-on marketing team that works across the organization, with senior management, and with outside creative and production agencies as needed, to deliver brand, advertising, digital and social media, print, website, online, direct mail, and email communications.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of California’s innovative Community Choice Aggregation agencies that are reducing carbon emissions by providing clean energy. In addition, as a not-for-profit organization, we invest in the community with programs that support building electrification, electric vehicle (EV) adoption, EV charging solutions and a variety of other energy projects.

This position reports to the senior manager of marketing communications and is a key contributor to the marketing team’s objectives:

  • Elevate our brand reputation as a trusted leader in the community and the industry
  • Develop compelling communications that inform, inspire action, and drive program participation
  • Design and implement marketing programs that are effective and efficient.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement marketing communications to achieve marketing objectives
  • Work with the team and outside agencies as needed to:
    • Develop communications from concept through completion including advertising, newsletters, direct mail, email, web content, collateral, and social media
    • Develop and manage digital marketing (such as Google Ads campaigns)
    • Provide input and value on visual design of projects so that communications are effective, appropriate and consistent with our brand
    • Develop messaging, write, oversee design and production of content which could include customer stories, blog posts, online or print ads, or videos.
  • Serve as marketing program manager for cross-team projects
  • Collaborate and support cross-agency projects as assigned, such as with the County, one of the cities, or other community choice aggregation agencies
  • Manage media planning and implementation, including digital, print, and social media
  • Use Google Analytics and other tools to monitor and report results
  • Other projects and responsibilities as assigned

Education and experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in marketing, communications, public administration, environmental studies, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in either a client or agency marketing communications role
  • Experience working in sustainability, climate change or energy industries is desirable
  • Experience with visual arts, such as video and/or animation would be a plus

Knowledge/skills

  • Marketing communications and digital marketing principles, methods and techniques
  • Marketing automation (experience with email tools such as GovDelivery and project management tools such as Wrike is desirable)
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel; collaborative tools such as Box and Slack
  • Desired but not required: Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign; WordPress; Canva
  • Experience using social media for work (experience with management tools is desirable)

  • Create written and visual communications that are consistent with our brand and are appropriately tailored to specific and varied audiences
  • Manage multiple priorities and projects, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities

  • Collaborate effectively with others
  • Be thorough and detail-oriented

Physical and working conditions

All employees can work remotely. Optionally, our Redwood City office can also can be used. Employees can apply for funds to help make their home workspace adequately ergonomic.
