Rebates for first-time EV buyers
In the market for a new car? Make the switch now to an EV!
If you live in San Mateo County and purchase your first EV, Peninsula Clean Energy will offer you a $700 rebate for new plug-in hybrid electric vehicles or a $1,000 rebate for new all-battery electric vehicles.
This rebate is only available for eligible EVs purchased from October 1st through December 31st.
Apply for your new EV rebate
After you have purchased your new EV, apply online for your rebate.
Once your application is approved, you should receive your check within 10-15 days.

Why switch from gas-powered to electric?
Electric vehicles cost significantly less to run, have lower maintenance costs and emit 25 times less emissions than gasoline-powered cars. New electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles have significantly increased driving ranges. The average commute in San Mateo County is about 44 miles round trip, easily in the range of a fully electric cars. Learn more about EVs

Vehicle Eligibility*
- Vehicle must be a plug-in hybrid or all-battery electric vehicles
- Vehicles must be highway capable, four-wheeled passenger vehicles
- Vehicle must be new
- Vehicle must be a purchase. Leases are not eligible
- Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles must have a minimum electric range of 25 miles
- The vehicle purchase contract cash price must not exceed $45,000

You should submit your rebate application after you have purchased and taken delivery your vehicle.
To be eligible, vehicles must be new, highway capable and four-wheeled, have a minimum electric range of 25 miles (for plug-in hybrid EVs), and the cash price as stated in Line 1-A of your purchase agreement must not exceed $45,000.

*IMPORTANT: the vehicle models listed here have a base Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) below $45,000. However, different trims, upgrades, or add-on accessories may increase the purchase price over $45,000 and thus disqualify the vehicle from the rebate.
Your vehicle’s cash price is found on Line 1-A (“Cash Price of Motor Vehicle and Accessories) of your vehicle purchase agreement. Line 1-A represents the Manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of your vehicle including any upgrades or add-on accessories and manufacturer destination/transport fees. It does not include taxes and government fees. Certain discounts at the time of sale may be incorporated into your cash price but this varies by manufacturer and/or dealership so ask your dealer for details on this.
Your date of purchase is considered the date your vehicle was first registered with the California DMV. View our sample supporting documents to find this date.
